WESTERN LIME ANNOUNCES NEW FACILITY COMMISSIONED

On August 16th, 2007 Western Lime held an open house and dedication ceremony for the community of Manistique, Michigan and all stakeholders to officially announce the commencement of operations of their new plant. The event was well attended which included a visit from the Governor of Michigan.

Commissioned in May 2007 this new plant, built on the Northern Shores of Lake Michigan near the town of Gulliver, provides Western Lime with a new flagship facility. The kiln system is the largest in Western Lime’s history, rated at 800 STPD. The new facilities include a new preheater kiln system, 2400 ST concrete kiln run silo, 900 ST of sized product storage, truck and rail loadout, and a new office/shop/warehouse complex.

The capacity of the limestone stockpile is 225,000 ST, which allows the plant to operate during the winter months while the quarry is shut down. The stone stockpile delivery system is capable of handling 1200 TPH.

Early in 2003 Ferenco was contracted to design the new plant and to provide project management services. The design of the new facility begun in earnest in 2004 and went through a multiple site location review. Once the site was chosen, existing waterways and wetlands had to be relocated before the site could be prepared for construction. Once all the necessary permits were in place, construction began in September 2005.

Ferenco worked closely with Western Lime throughout this project to ensure all the required design elements of the plant were included and that all necessary construction compliances were met.

“It was a pleasure to work with Ferenco on this project. They have met all our expectations and we would be happy to work with them again in the future.”

Mike Nast – Vice President Western Lime.

Ferenco would like to thank all those involved with the project for their cooperation and support. Ferenco also wishes to thank Western Lime for the opportunity to provide services on this exciting project.
